Tenant Protection

ProtectWhatMatters

SafeLease tenant protection is the easy and affordable way to protect your stored property. Choose a protection level, pay for it monthly with your rent, and cancel anytime.

Protection levels

  • $2,000
  • $3,000
  • $5,000

Why protect your unit

Extra protection. Greater peace of mind.

A protection plan is a simple add-on to your rental agreement, built around how people actually store their belongings.

  • Month to month

The plan runs month to month, and you can cancel your participation at any time.

  • Billed with your rent

Plans are priced monthly and included in your total rental fee, so there is no separate bill.

  • Three protection levels

Choose $2,000, $3,000, or $5,000 of protection for your stored property. Coverage may vary by store location.

  • Deductible waived for burglary

A $100 per-claim deductible applies to every level. It is waived for burglary claims when a cylinder lock, disc padlock, or smart lock is used.

  • Claims submitted online

If you experience a loss, submit your claim through the SafeLease tenant portal.

  • Coverage is required

Participation in this program is not required; however, you must opt out by providing proof of private coverage, or a policy will be force placed.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is tenant protection?

It is an optional amendment to your self-storage rental agreement that protects your stored property against specific events, up to the protection level you choose. The agreement is between you and the owner or manager of the facility. Protection plans are not insurance.

Why should I consider it?

It is an affordable, month-to-month way to protect stored property against events like burglary, fire, water damage, building collapse, and vandalism, and it is billed together with your rent.

What types of loss may be covered?

Burglary, fire, water damage, building collapse (including the weight of snow and ice), vandalism, rodents and vermin, and mold and mildew. Rodent, vermin, mold, and mildew claims have a $500 sublimit. Flood, surface water, and mysterious disappearance are not covered.

Is there a deductible?

Yes. A $100 per-claim deductible applies to all protection levels. It is waived for burglary claims when a cylinder lock, disc padlock, or smart lock is used.

Do I need it if I have homeowners or renters insurance?

Participation is not required to rent storage space. The plan may duplicate coverage provided by a homeowners or renters policy, so check your own policy before choosing.

What is SafeLease’s role?

SafeLease is not a party to the protection plan. It provides insurance coverage to the facility owner for liability under the plan and administers the claims tenants submit.

How do I access the SafeLease tenant portal?

Visit tenant.safelease.com. That is also where you submit a claim if you experience a loss.

Where can I find the official program terms?

The brochure is a summary. Your self-storage rental agreement and Protection Plan Addendum contain the full terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions. Our office can help you find them.
